Event Description

Saturday October 17, Pier 70 San Francisco
The Balboa and Roxie Theaters Present:

USA, 1982, 117 min
Directed by Ridley Scott. Starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos

Modern science fiction wouldn’t be what it is today if not for Ridley Scott’s visually stunning, achingly human sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. Set in 2019, Scott’s legendary adaptation of Phillip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? gave us a startling vision of a noir-ishly dystopian future, in which the line between human and non-human has worn perilously thin. Harrison Ford stars as the government-sanctioned killer who falls in love with gorgeous, enigmatic Sean Young, while trying to eliminate Rutger Hauer and his rogue band of genetically engineered replicants.

In partnership with the Port of San Francisco, we see Pier 70 as an opportunity to celebrate core principles that have perpetually moved San Francisco. We are building and sustaining a space made of San Francisco: a place that puts creativity at the center, is open and inviting to all and which brings people closer to the Bay. We are Made of Creativity, Made of the Bay, and Made of Everyone.

To Benefit La Cocina

The mission of La Cocina is to cultivate low-income food entrepreneurs as they formalize and grow their businesses. La Cocina works to solve problems of equity in business ownership for women, immigrants and people of color. Since COVID-19, 70% of La Cocina-born businesses have lost 100% of their sales,; 86% of La Cocina entrepreneurs had regular employees, and by the end of March, 90% of those businesses had to lay off or furlough their entire staff. For 56%, their business is their entire family’s sole source of income. As restaurants have been allowed to do takeout and delivery, some entrepreneurs have found revenue, yet only 10% of what they were selling before March. As a nation, we lack the structural support systems to properly care for hourly workers and small business owners. It’s time to advocate together for immediate support and change. Here’s what you can do to support:

San Francisco, Bay Area - Locally owned and operated independent movie-houses

The Balboa Theater has been showing movies in the Outer Richmond District since 1926. During this COVID-19 time the theater, part of the CinemaSF family, presents exciting first run movies via a virtual screening room accessed through, and opens for hot curbside popcorn and ice-cold beer on Saturdays from 4 to 7pm. This Fall the theater will be projecting movies in the street in front of the theater on weekends for you to enjoy from a safe social distance.

The Vogue Theater has been showing movies in the Laurel Village neighborhood since 1912. That’s two pandemics ago! The single screen theater is part of the CinemaSF family and has been screening movies in its virtual screening room during the current pandemic. Please visit for more information and to watch current releases.

The Roxie Theater is one of the oldest continuously operated cinemas in the United States, with its history tracing back to 1911. The theater continues to shine in our community as a beacon of unwavering independence, originality, and integrity. Guided from the start by crazy visionaries who pursued dreams over profit, The Roxie strives to keep the weird and wonderful alive in the San Francisco’s Mission District. Check out for the latest releases in The Roxie Virtual Cinema and to learn more about Roxie Quick Takes, a new virtual filmmaker conversation series!

And special thanks to Corey Tong for co-programming the movie selection.
